1. #microphone – “destined for impact”

Happy July! I love the fresh start of a new series. There is always so much excitement and anticipation looking forward to all that God is going to teach us and grow us in.

Microphone is all about influence. Our influence. How God has given us a unique and special platform, and how to live a life of impact no matter where we are.

“What are you doing with your microphone? Your voice is too good to waste on yourself. We are to live to make Jesus famous!”

During his third point, my husband pointed out so well that sometimes our lives don’t feel special or unique or glamorous or worthy to be broadcasted, but that’s exactly it! No matter what we are doing, no matter what our lives look like, no matter the glamor or lack thereof, God has given us this platform and it’s a microphone to the world, and it’s always on! And I love that for me, at home, in the “little things” like making breakfast or doing laundry, or changing diapers or reading stories, these things can actually make an impact as I seek to use this platform God has given me.  Nothing is too little or too big for God to use, and I love that! We can all do our part wherever we’re at!

“The closer we are to Jesus, the more God can use us. And the  more we look to Jesus, the more radiant our lives are.”

And I loved the truth that my husband brought up that “unity is the key to volume.” The picture of the body of Christ uniting and making our voice loud by saying the same thing together is just beautiful!

“When we unite, there’s no one we can’t reach and there’s nothing we can’t do!”

And I love this so much about our church, fresh life, as we run with horses, and as we risk the ocean together!

Catch this message here, and have a fabulous week using the microphone God has given you!

  2. My Big Kid This Week

Before Lenya was born, I signed up with a website called to know how she was growing each week inside of me. When I signed up for this weekly update, I didn’t realize it would continue on after she was born. Every week, for her whole life I have received an email saying, “your two year old this week,” or “your 4 year old this week,” and so on.

And now, I continue to receive weekly emails, and they always make my heart skip a beat.

“Your 5 year old this week.”

My heart usually fills with aching, and then, as I read what she would be up to if she were still here with us, I smile, knowing that what she is really currently doing is far far better than that.

Often, my husband and I will ask our daughters what they think Lenya is doing in heaven at that particular moment. There have been many answers, some of which are “riding on a white horse” or “riding on a flying unicorn” or “dancing and twirling” or “swimming with dolphins.” We love to think about what she might be doing, knowing full well, that she’s doing the most wild, risky, crazy thing that she can possibly do.

We may not know exactly what activities the Lenya Lion is up to, but we do know that she is present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8) and that there’s a party in the presence of the angels when a sinner repents (Luke 15:10), and that there is constant worship going on (Revelation 4). We have experienced this nearness to heaven when we see and hear of people surrendering there lives to Christ, and we have a dance party – which is something we used to do with Lenya here with us. And whenever we are worshiping whether in church or at home or at the ocean or in the mountains, there’s also a nearness to the activity of heaven.

While my updates of what Lenya would be doing might say, “riding a two wheeled bike” or “tying her own shoes” or “growing in confidence” –  I know we’re not “missing out” and neither is she, because she’s with God, experiencing the life she was made for and meant to live. And soon and very soon we will all be together living such a life!

“In Your presence is fullness of joy.” Psalm 16:11

  3. #altarego – Laying Down My Longing For Approval

This series with Pastor Craig Groeschel has been incredible! God has really been using this series to point out things in my life that He wants to work on or change or clean out, and it hurts, but it’s so good!

This week as we learned more about becoming who God says we are, Pastor Craig focused on our need for approval. He went through a list of signs that might show us this need, and I felt like each item on the list described me!

He described this as “the disease to please” and it really is a disease, as we look to others for affirmation or we really care what others think about what we do and who we are.  When he brought up the fact that pleasing people is idolatry, that hit me hard.  Because the truth is, I so often consider what others think before I consider what God thinks, and it’s something I’ve always struggled with ever since I was a little girl.  Wanting  people to like me, being overly sensitive to criticism, having a hard time saying no, having difficulty communicating because of the fear of being rejected, and so on….And this quote impacted me greatly:

“Becoming obsessed with what people think about you is the quickest way to forget what God thinks about you.”

And a very freeing moment was when he had us repeat after him:

“I can’t please people, but I can please God!”

And I’ve just been thinking about this over and over. When he mentioned the 10 places in the Bible where it clearly states who God says we are, it was pretty amazing to see those things listed out.  And one of my favorites was 2 Corinthians 5:20 that I am Christ’s ambassador – the highest ranking representative sent by God to wherever He has sent us. Our job, our home, our marriage, our family, our parents, etc…

In addition to a great message, this weekend was just exciting at Fresh Life as we celebrated the great things God had done through the O2 Experience Tour. The Lord has done great things, we are glad, and we are so fired up for what’s next!

I’m SO excited for our Microphone series starting this weekend!

  4. #o2experience – San Jose/Boise

O2 experience San Jose was special for me because 21 years ago, I sat in the exact same venue at a purity conference for young girls, and made the same commitment to purity as hundreds did on Saturday night. It was a special night seeing God move in a such a powerful way in peoples’ lives.

During my husband’s second message on sex and romance, he asks me to come out on the stage and he tells my story how I made such a commitment and was able to give my key (a little symbol of my sexual purity) to my husband on our wedding night. And as I stood up there each time, I was so blown away by God’s grace, how He had brought me this man I had waited for and how we get to serve in such a special way together!

O2 Boise, was a spectacular event! There was a real sense of expectancy and excitement in the room, and it was amazing to see an overflowing venue with hundreds making professions of faith, and the majority of the room stand up and commit to sexual purity!

I also loved getting to interview Kylie Bisutti as she shared her story of her modeling career, and how God changed her heart towards it. It was shocking to hear of the things that models do to their bodies to feel beautiful. And I loved hearing Kylie’s heart for young girls and telling them how beautiful and precious they are in God’s eyes. What a fabulous addition to the O2 Experience!

What an absolute honor to serve alongside this epic O2 team, knowing that we were being supported and prayed for by the home team! And it really was amazing to work with such great churches, to see different cultures of churches, and to see the life change in thousands of lives! Can’t wait for next year!

  5. #o2experience – Riverside/orange county

It has been an incredible ride. I feel like a broken record, but it’s true every time when I say that I can’t believe we get to do this! We’re in the business of working our tails off to communicate this message of the truth and of God’s love and of God’s plan for relationships and sex, and then we get to stand back and watch God do what only He can do! As we got to work with Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside and in Orange County, it was amazing to see the venues fully packed and overflowing with hundreds of people flooding the aisles to surrender their lives to Christ and thousands taking a stand for sexual purity.

We’ve been hearing story after story of young girls explaining how they were cutting themselves and feeling like they had no meaning to their lives. They now realize God’s love for them, that He has a plan and a purpose for their lives, and that they no longer need to hurt themselves, because Jesus suffered and died in their place to bring hope and healing and life and the hope of heaven when we die.

And it’s amazing that the o2 experience is changing these girls’ perspectives and ultimately the course of their lives!

“The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying: ‘Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.'”Jeremiah 31:3
